The area is home to wondrous views of fall foliage. The best time for Upstate New York fall foliage occurs between the last weeks in September and the third week in October.

Taking a journey by hiking through the woods, and observing spectacular views of the mountains and hillsides, is the best way to take in the explosion of red, yellow and orange leaves.

Catskill Mountain Railroad

Ride, relax and explore the Catskill Mountains when you aboard the Catskill Mountain Railroad!

Take a joy ride on the Catskill Fall Leaf Train with vendors, entertainers, craft makers and more! The train travels through an autumn Eden at the Westbrook Lane Station on September 29th and 30th, October 6th-8th, 13th -14th at 11:00 am.

The Catskill Pumpkin Express takes you and your family to a pumpkin wonderland. The train adventures through the heart of the Catskill Mountains and all its beautiful colors then make a stop at a track-side pumpkin patch. October 20th -21st and 27th -28th at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm

Terror on the tracks! Ride if you dare on the Rails of Terror. This haunted train leaves Kingston and takes you through a spooky trail of the unknown. Freaky creatures and tails of local ghosts make this event for teens and adults only on October 12th -13th, 19th– 20th, and 26th– 27th.

Hike the Art Trail

Take the ultimate guided tour hiking and paddling through the Catskills on September 28th. The tour will feature a variety of sites along the Hudson River School Art Trail, lead by Catskill Mountain Wild native, Jeff Vincent.

 

Fall Festivals

Celebrating autumn has been a long time tradition for many cultures. As the seasons begin to change, people celebrate and give thanks to the harvest as they prepare for the harsh winter months. While this tradition stands strong today, many honor this commemoration with festivals, celebrations and festive renditions alike. The Hudson Valley and Catskills is the best place to be to observe autumn and experience fun fall festivals. Check out a few notable events happening near the area:

2nd Annual Oktoberfest and International Food Festival

Attend this spectacular event featuring Germany’s heritage. Come for the food trucks, live music, and traditional Oktoberfest competitions such as Stein Hoisting, Corn Hole, and Tug-O-War. The event is Saturday, September 22nd from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

Annual Harvest Festival

Saturday, October 6th, come for a classic autumn festival and a fun family-focused day of crafters, vendors, live music and entertainment all day from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm in Cairo, New York.

Hunter Mountain Oktoberfest Bavarian Festival

Four weekends of free Oktoberfest festivities kicking off September 22nd and running through October 14th! Take a day trip to enjoy live music, authentic German and German-American food, harvest features, vendors, kid-friendly activities and more. The festival runs from 11:00 am – 6:15 pm on Saturday’s and 11:00 am – 5:15 pm on Sunday’s.

Fall Camping at Skyway
